Description: Matakohe provided architectural services from pre-design through to detailed-design for the interior refurbishment of the existing wharenui at Whangārei Intermediate School. The whare was upgraded with a fresh new interior fitout, including new interior finishes and a larger internal space with the removal of its existing mezzanine and rear rooms.

It features new carpet, wall treatment, paint to the walls and ceiling, as well as new light fittings and built-in furniture. Woven bamboo wall panelling and custom built-in timber seating bring warmth to the room, with the timber seating also providing additional storage. New acoustic wall linings and carpet flooring enhance the room’s acoustic performance, while also bringing vibrant colours into the space.
